HUGE EXCITING NEWS

logo (1)

We have been keeping quiet lately, busy working away on top secret projects that can finally be revealed! Maybe you’ve already noticed some changes if you’ve stopped by the main website lately. The logo has been tweaked just slightly because Fellow Threads is now called The Fellow Company. The name change came about mostly out of necessity; excitedly, our little business is growing and we needed an encompassing name rather than a name that indicates just one type of product. Our clothing, or our “Threads” as our customers know them by, is now its very own department within The Fellow Company.

Wait! There’s more! In addition to the name change, we have added a second department to The Fellow Company. In November of this year, we will have the pleasure of launching a line of all-natural bath and beauty products we have decided to name Fellow Organics. Without giving too much away, we can confidently say that the things we’ve been experimenting with over the recent months are everything you want and need in your daily regimen.

November must be our month because you know that insanely popular event that takes place twice a year… it’s where fans and creators of online videos come together… mainly YouTube… you know, Playlist Live? Well, we’re picking out our outfits now because The Fellow Company is headed to Playlist Tri-State. We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this amazing event, but that’s all we’re going to say about that for now! More information in the coming weeks, including brand new designs! It’s safe to say things are going to get crazy around here, and we happily welcome the chaos because it means we have an even greater opportunity to connect with you guys.

If you’ve been a long-time customer of ours, we love and appreciate your continued support. You know exactly who you are, and we are always grateful. If you’re brand new to The Fellow Company family, then welcome. You’re in for exciting times.

Comfort & Coffee

We live in Orlando, where it’s perpetually sunny and warm, but we do realize that the vast majority of you live in much more seasonal climates where fall is already making itself known. This morning, temperatures here went as low as the mid 70s (gasp!), so we are slowly beginning to see, and feel, the changes as well. Even with our tropical weather, we still look forward to the autumnal season just as so many of you do, because it means so many exciting things!

Even in the Florida it can get cool early in the mornings and into the evenings. Putting on layers is a wonderful way to surrender to fall. Sweaters, flannels, light cotton jackets… and, luckily, we have the perfect basics to layer on top of. There’s nothing like a cozy sweater, and there’s nothing like a well-worn T-shirt to fit snugly underneath it. We are a big fan of the basic tee, because they pair nicely with everything, literally, and they are exceedingly easy to wear. We love a statement tee that, although simple in style, is a sartorial extension of your personality.

Fall also means coffee. We would be bonafide liars if we didn’t admit to being loyal followers of the caffeine all-year-round. Autumn, however, means spicier, warmer flavors, while spring and summer lend to fruitier teas, lemonades, and iced coffees. There is definitely a theme in our T-shirt designs: coffee and comfort, which is exactly what fall calls for.

Award Season Favorites: Emmys

JanuaryJones

Remember the epic royal blue Atelier Versace gown January Jones wore in 2010? It was, for me, the most striking look on the red carpet that year. The dress was bold and her hair and makeup were so simple, ah it just made so much sense. This Prabal Gurung look certainly fits that formula, as well. January has somehow managed to make the most overwhelming looks seem so put together, as if how she’s wearing it is just how the designer imagined.

Matthew McConaughey is one lucky man for many reasons, but seeing as he calls Woody Harrelson a friend and Camila Alves his wife is almost unfair. Camila is beyond stunning in her Zuhair Murad white cutout gown, and she easily outshines her husband (as she should). Woody and Matthew on the other hand, I kind of dig it. It seemed like every “fashion critic” thought they should be wearing traditional black tuxedos, but I think their color and style choice shows that they’ve paid their dues, proven themselves, and can, basically, do whatever they want at this point. Did you guys catch Jimmy Kimmel’s 2 minute roast of McConaughey? It was probably the funniest part of the entire show. “You beautiful sonofabitch.”

It was a huge night for American Horror Story: Coven. Both Queen Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates (who haunted my dreams for weeks after the first episode aired) took home Emmys. Jessica was elegant as ever in her black J. Mendel gown. The woman is flawless, and I would gladly listen to her read the phone book. Let us not ignore Sarah Paulson who always delivers on the red carpet, simply because she isn’t afraid of less traditional designs. Her Armani Prive gown is beautiful, and frankly, it’s just fun to look at.

AmyPoehler

I keep a running list of “people I don’t know personally, but wish I did” in my head, and Amy Poehler remains my number one. She is the living embodiment of everything I want to be as a woman. She is, of course, geniusly smart and funny, but she seems like one of the most genuine people you could meet. We normally see Amy in more muted colors, so I love that she chose a brilliantly silver v-neck Theia gown.

Sarah Hyland and Lena Dunham – similar look, wildly different in the details. Both are wearing neutral structured tops and voluminous corally pink skirts, but do so in ways that speak to their personalities. Sarah’s Christian Siriano two-piece gown is the perfect combination of fresh and smart, a beautiful representation of how young actresses should dress. Lena in this Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown just makes sense, doesn’t it? One of the many reasons I look forward to award season is to see what Lena wears. She always finds pieces that speak to her boldness.

I often feel like I’m the only person left who doesn’t watch Orange is the New Black. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s just that I haven’t had the opportunity to. I have a hard time separating Taylor Schilling from her role in that movie with Zac Efron, but I digress. One of my favorite looks is understated elegance, and Taylor is just that in this ivory Zuhair Murad halter gown. It’s so intricate, yet simple. Uzo Aduba does quite the opposite in Christian Siriano. WOW. The cut of the dress is perfect for her body shape, and the color emanates power. I could stare at her for hours.

LizzyCaplan

Lizzy Caplan in Donna Karan Atelier is breathtaking. The black portion would’ve been beautiful on its own, but the addition of the white train elevates it to a new level of gorgeous. It’s simple color-wise, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. I just love this look, it’s classicly beautiful. It reminds me of Grace Kelly.

JuliaRoberts

Shout out to Julia Roberts for being one of the only actresses to wear a mini dress. To me, this choice says “I helped this movie get made, but really I’m just happy to be a part of its success.” The Normal Heart is an important movie, that probably should’ve won more awards. I think if Julia wore a statement gown it would’ve played off like she’s the shining star of the film, when really the shining star is the message of the film. In that sense, the Elie Saab mini is perfect. Plus, who are we kidding? It’s Julia Roberts, she looks excellent in anything.

KitHarington

And last, but never least, for your viewing pleasure, the gorgeous Kit Harington. Twitter exploded when he arrived on the red carpet rocking Emporio Armani and a “man bun” (a phrase I just can’t on board with). In my humble opinion, he looks great. It comes back to that whole idea of being polished, but not too polished. That’s the secret, that’s what makes an actor or actress on a red carpet look like they know what they’re doing. Going off  subject, it always surprises me that Game of Thrones doesn’t get more award acknowledgment considering its complexity and the immense challenges just to film it. But what do I know?

Now, let us know! Who were your favorites? Watch this space for even more red carpet favorites as award season continues. (All photos are from style.com)

Diagon Alley Opening Day

IMG_7587

WE DID OUR WAITING! OVER THREE YEARS OF IT! Think way back to 2011. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Hogsmeade had been open and running smoothly for four years when the first rumors of an expansion began circulating the Wizarding Wireless Network (aka the internet). True Potter fans knew way down in the pits of their magical souls that a Diagon Alley addition was on its way. What this meant exactly was anyone’s guess. It was fun to speculate at how Universal would incorporate more magic into an already phenomenal attraction, and it wasn’t until May of 2013 that we finally, officially knew that a train, the Hogwarts Express, would transport people back and forth between two lands: Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.

It wasn’t until The Today Show visited Universal in late June 2014 that an official opening date was finally announced. Diagon Alley would open to the public on July 8. Forget any sneak peaks or soft openings, we wanted the full experience. As soon as we heard the news, the strategizing to get into Diagon Alley on opening day began. We already knew massive crowds would flood through the gates of Universal Studios as early as possible on Monday morning, so we decided to enter through Islands of Adventure instead. (I should preface: the night before we booked a room at the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. All guests who stay at a Universal hotel have early access into the parks.) We wanted to be on the first official train from Hogsmeade into “London.” We were the first guests into IoA, the first in line at Hogsmeade station, and the first group to get off the train at King’s Cross Station. Our group of six got separated after we exited the train, but a kind and professional Universal administrator gladly rejoined us. I cannot reiterate enough how brilliant the Universal staff was on opening day. Every single staff member we encountered was enthusiastic, informative and patient.

After waiting maybe over two hours total, we entered into London dressed in our finest wizarding wear, and our heads exploded.

We have yet to ride Escape from Gringott’s, mainly because we refuse to wait in the seven hour line. I think we’ve decided to wait until the hype dies down a little bit before we attempt the wait. We don’t want to spoil all the surprises, but some personal highlights included Knockturn Alley – it’s cold, dark, spooky and everything you want it to be; the Quidditch shop and all the new gear, including Chudley Cannons, Ireland and Bulgaria souvenirs; Florean Fortescue’s, shout out to the sticky toffee pudding ice cream.

I promise that these few pictures don’t do Diagon Alley justice. From the moment you enter through the brick archway, you are entirely immersed inside the wizarding world. Everything you see, every building to every minute detail, is straight out of Jo Rowling’s mind. All in all, we really didn’t have to wait as long as we prepared ourselves for. We went in expecting long lines and irritated people (which we definitely ran into), but overall, opening day was sensational. Diagon Alley, without a doubt, goes above and beyond everything we imagined. There’s so much to do, and so much to see, that an entire day exploring might not even be enough. If you have any questions or comments about the new expansion, please ASK! We can visit as often as we like, and we’ve been doing our research thoroughly.

Exclusive Harry Potter Collection

snape_1024x1024

LeakyCon is less than a month way. LESS THAN A MONTH. We can hardly believe it’s finally happening, as we applied to be vendors back when snow was on the ground. SNOW. Now, we live in the beautiful, sunny state of Florida (where snow is simply a memory), just minutes from the Orange County Convention Center, where this year’s festivities will be held, July 30 – August 3.

It’s been a longtime dream of ours to be a part of LeakyCon in some way, but it’s also been a dream to one day design apparel inspired by the Harry Potter series. We are wholeheartedly, unashamedly, passionately dedicated to the series, so having the opportunity to put together an exclusive collection of T-shirts solely for LeakyCon is a dream come true. Over the last few months we have perfected five designs that we are so proud of. All the shirts will be sold at our booth, along with several other fandom-inspired items, and our trademark vintage denim. You can also purchase the shirts early on our website!

Each design is printed in black ink on super-soft white T-shirts. Sizing ranges from Small to XLarge. You can visit the LeakyCon section of our store site to get a better look at each of the designs. Remember, all shipping is free to those who live in the United States! To everyone outside the U.S., we ship worldwide, so shop away!

Which design is your favorite? We, of course, can’t decide. We’re obsessed with them all! We had the opportunity to attend opening day of the Diagon Alley expansion at Universal Studios on Monday the 8th, so keep an eye out for a blog dedicated to just that! It was pure madness, only in the best way.

**UPDATE:  The official programming schedule for LeakyCon 2014 has been released! Go check it out now!
