Warped Tour: Cleveland

Warped Tour Cleveland 064

Hey, strangers! First off, let me apologize for our small hiatus. Life is completely unpredictable and insane at the moment, not that we’re complaining (it’s awesome), it just makes blogging, let alone finding a legitimate internet signal, a little bit difficult. Anyway, our second and most recent stop on Vans Warped Tour was in Cleveland at Blossom Music Center. If I had to come up with one word to describe the entire day, I would have to be boring and unoriginal and go with HOT. I mean, unbearably hot. So hot they had sprinklers and slip ‘n slides set up. So hot we had to change our outfits twice. So hot that people were unashamedly cursing the sun into oblivion. This isn’t to compare our work as vendors to that of the actual roadies and musicians, I’m just merely putting things into perspective: Warped Tour is amazing, but it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Our advice is to prepare for everything, but expect nothing, because it never works out exactly the way you planned it. Of course, the benefits greatly outweigh any negatives and we couldn’t be more excited about what we’re doing.

We set up around 9 every morning, and it’s always a guess as to which stage we’ll be near. In Indianapolis we were right next to the Monster Energy stage, this time we were directly up the hill from the Domo and Tilly’s split stage in the amphitheater. We were actually able to catch one full show, this time Allstar Weekend were the lucky ones.

We really dig our tent. We love the rustic boutique look, and we love that it allows people to come inside and browse. If you can’t make it to Warped this year, no worries! Check out our online store and have just about everything customized to your liking.

OH and most excitedly, Novena Carmel from Wallpaper wore our pink Start Something crop top on stage! How amazing does she look, and look at that crowd!

Behind the Scenes

photo (3)A favorite aspect of our business is the fusion of fashion and music, which is exactly the reason we jumped at the chance to join Vans Warped Tour this year. It’s a chance for us to not only sell our products, but to feel inspired by what started this journey in the first place: our love of good music. You have to hand it to vendors of any kind. It’s old-fashioned hard work. Long hours in the sweltering heat, long car rides wedged between boxes, lugging equipment two to three times your size… but it’s all been more than worth it just to meet you guys.   Enjoy these snapshots of some behind the scenes action on tour so far.

If you can’t make it to the Warped Tour this year, don’t worry! You can buy all of our products via our online store. Every single item is hand-picked and designed just for you. And remember, if you photograph yourself wearing any of our merchandise, we’ll happily feature you on our website as well as our social media sites. We’re heading back out on July 18 in Cleveland. Make sure to stop by and see us and, in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.

What to Wear: Vans Warped Tour

Music festival fashion is a favorite style of ours. In fact, we have an entire summer clothing line inspired by it. Festivals are one of the few places in the world where you can dress any way you want and fit right in. Vans Warped Tour, in particular, appeals to such a wide variety of people that we couldn’t help but people watch all day, marveling at some of the brilliant trends attendees came up with. (You can see in our previous post some of the amazing outfits we captured.) If you’re planning your Warped Tour attire, or just your summer wardrobe in general, we want to help by providing an affordable, style catalogue of sorts; a rundown of the top trends we’ve seen on tour so far.

1. Bathing suits, such a smart idea. The weather has been so bipolar lately, stifling hot and sunny one second, humid and pouring rain the next. Wearing a bathing suit makes it easy to take off clothes, and still look cute and festival-ready. We spotted mostly flowery, animal and geometric prints in fluorescent colors. Bandeau and halter tops were, by far, the most popular. (They’re also ideal for trying on clothes without a changing tent!)

2. Crop tops could be anything from a spandex/cotton blend bearing your whole stomach, to a rolled up t-shirt showing just your waistline. It seemed like every other girl wore a crop top, and we say the more the merrier! Not only are they cute and easy to wear, but they are a fantastic ode to trends of the 60s and 90s.

3. High-waisted shorts were often paired with bathing suit and crop tops. There is something so cool about vintage, high-waisted denim. Of course, your shorts don’t need to be denim. We saw a lot of cool spandex bottoms in fun prints, a lot of paisley and stripe patterns.

4. Backpacks were, surprisingly, everywhere. We saw one too many of the drawstring variety, though. If you’re going to do the backpack thing, why not invest in one that does the job and looks good at the same time. Choose one that’s small enough to carry just what you need (including all the free stuff and souvenirs!), in bright colors (A. so you don’t lose it and B. it looks amazing paired with your outfit), made from a canvas material that can stand some roughing up and dirt.

5. Flats/sneakers, mainly close-toed shoes. We love a good gladiator sandal, but Warped Tour just doesn’t seem like the most ideal place for them (hence the moshing, mud, dirt, and miles of walking). Throw on a pair of reliable sneakers or boots and call it a day, or choose a comfortable pair of cute flats that won’t murder your feet while you walk from stage to stage.

6. Oversized sunglasses are a must-have at Warped Tour. We saw a lot in basic black and brown, round and square frames, but we also saw a lot with floral designs and cat-eye frames. Sunglasses are cool because there’s an infinite amount of styles to match anyone’s personality. When it comes to sunglasses, oversized is best. They top off outfits, they’re statement pieces, so the bigger the better.

Fellow Threads will be in 7 more cities this summer, so make sure to stop by and see us if you’re at Warped! We want to meet you, hang out, take pictures, and feature you on our many social media sites. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Warped Tour: Indianapolis

Warped Tour Indianapolis 039

Fellow Threads officially joined Vans Warped Tour yesterday in Indianapolis. The entire experience from start to finish went beyond our expectations in every possible way. Set-up began around 9 am right next to the Monster Energy stage. We wanted our tent to resemble more of a boutique, allowing people to come inside and browse. Our store is online-based, so we loved the opportunity to meet our customers and work with them directly. Every single customer was so lovely, and easy-going. (Shout out to the girls who tried on clothes without a changing curtain. You guys were troopers!)

A revelation: work can be fun, you guys. There’s absolutely no reason why anyone should be working hard at something that isn’t uplifting, rewarding and, not to be under-minded, FUN. We worked our butts off non-stop until 9 pm, and it was awesome. In the little downtime that we did have, we were able to catch parts of two shows: Allstar Weekend and Action Item on the Tilly and Domo stage.

Trends We Love: denim on denim

Very much like the classic t-shirt in our last post, denim is an undeniable staple in every wardrobe. At the moment, we feel denim is so vital, particularly, to one’s summer wardrobe, that we have fallen in love with the chic simplicity of full-on denim-on-denim outfits. Every year this trend seems to pop up, but now we’ve accepted it, we’re committed and we’re dating. We’re talking tailored chambray button-downs paired with frayed and hole-ridden cut-offs, even skinny jeans. Mix and match shades and textures to create dimension in your outfit (but mainly to avoid the whole Canadian tuxedo look). Or just decide you’re wearing a Canadian tux, and wear it proudly, because someone somewhere out there will look at you and think, “Why didn’t I think of that!?”

Having said all that, denim head-to-toe, when done wrong, can be bad. Very bad. Hideous even. (Cue Justin and Britney circa 2001.) But when it’s done right, it’s spectacular. And luckily for you, we happen to specialize in hand-crafted reconstructed denim cut-offs. Remember, if you wear any of our clothing, we will feature you on the website and/or Instagram!
